Max Anderson, DDS, MS, MEd, President and Board Chairman

Dr. Anderson is a licensed dentist and dental researcher whose current responsibilities include dental consulting to the insurance industry. He left his position at Washington Dental Service (WDS) after ten years as Vice President and Chief Science Officer. He was responsible for the professional adjudication; professional relations; a capitation program; and health care data analysis divisions. WDS is a $700MM/year company providing dental insurance services to 1.9 million people. He provided both short and long-range planning for the dental aspects of dental prepaid programs. This included budgeting, conducting the corporate research and development efforts for clinical outcomes assessment and management research and the quality assurance programs for dental products. He currently serves on the American Dental Association's Code Revision Committee, the Standard Committee for Dental Informatics where he chairs the Dental Extension of the Continuity of Care Record and for Delta Dental's Dental Policy Committee. Dr. Anderson received his undergraduate education and D.D.S. at the University of Nebraska, attended the U.S. Navy's Nuclear Power School and received his graduate education at the University of Michigan, George Washington University and the University of Virginia (Darden). He has authored more than 45 scientific papers and abstracts on the subject of professional dental care and treating the primary diseases of dentistry as bacterial infections. He serves on numerous editorial and professional organization boards.

 

Wenyuan Shi, Ph.D.

Wenyuan Shi, Ph.D. is the Chairman of C3's Scientific Advisory Board and Chief Scientific Advisor.

Dr. Shi is chair and professor of Oral Biology at UCLA School of Dentistry and a professor of Microbiology at School of Medicine. He leads a 30+ person researcher laboratory using multidisciplinary approaches to study microbial pathogenesis with a specific focus on microbial biofilms, inter-species interaction and signal transduction. Dr. Shi's laboratories are actively involved in the development of next generation of diagnostic tools for microbial agents, including lateral flow and nanotechnology based real-time detection systems. Therapuetic applications include the development of rationally screened hebal library and peptide based targeted antimicrobials. These translational research efforts have resulted in six licensed technologies by major pharmaceutical and dental companies and two new start-up biotech companies.

Dr. Shi obtained his BS degree from Fudan University in 1984, acquired his Ph.D degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1991 and fulfilled his postdoctoral training at University of California-Berkeley during 1992-1995. He has authored or co-author over 100 scientific articles and inventor or co-inventor of 12 patents.

 

Dennis Brown

Den Brown is president and chief executive officer of Delta Dental of Wisconsin. He has been with the company for 31 years. He has held several leadership positions within the national Delta Dental Plans Association.

 

Laura Czelada, CPA

Laura Czelada is executive vice president, chief financial officer and chief information officer for Delta Dental of Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana, and its parent organization, Renaissance Health Service Corporation. In that capacity, she oversees the enterprise’s financial systems, internal auditing and compliance, human resources, and information technology. Czelada, who joined the enterprise in 1992, previously worked as a senior auditor for KPMG Peat Marwick. She received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Michigan State University in 1989 and became a certified public accountant in 1991. Czelada is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.

 

Fred Eichmiller, DDS, MS

Dr. Fred Eichmiller, a nationally recognized authority in dental research, is vice president and dental director at Delta Dental of Wisconsin. He leads Delta Dental's efforts to identify emerging technologies and trends in the dental industry, helps the company develop and expand its leadership in providing consumer-oriented oral health information, and represents the company within the dental community.

Prior to joining Delta Dental, Dr. Eichmiller served as director of the American Dental Association Foundation's Paffenbarger Research Center, a dental research enterprise operated by the American Dental Association's Foundation. The center, located in Gaithersburg, Md., engages in cooperative dental and medical materials research with government scientists and others, helping to develop standards, treatments, instruments and materials used by dentists nationwide. Dr. Eichmiller has published an array of academic papers reflecting research on dental restorative materials and other topics.

 

Jim Garrison, Ph.D.

Jim Garrison recently retired as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Washington Dental Service (WDS), a member plan of the Delta Dental Plans Association (DDPA). WDS is a $600 million not-for-profit, healthcare services contractor. He served as the Chairman of the Delta Dental Plans Association from 1998-2000. DDPA is a national organization of member plans from all 50 states and Puerto Rico, who provide more than $8 billion of dental care services per year to 35 million people. Mr. Garrison also chaired the for-profit subsidiary of the Association, Delta USA, the organization charged with overseeing the co-ordination and marketing of the member plan's national programs.

 

George Levicki, DDS

George Levicki, DDS, is the president and chief executive officer of Delta Dental of Virginia. He is the former chairman and continues to serve on the board of directors and in other leadership positions for the Delta Dental Plans Association. Delta Dental is a national organization of member plans from all 50 states and Puerto Rico, who provide more than $8 billion of dental care services per year to 35 million people. He is a member of the American Dental Association, various other professional organizations and serves on the board of directors for n-Health, the Virginia Health Care Foundation, the Virginia Dental Health Foundation and the Virginia Tech Biology Advisory Board. Dr. Levicki received his B.S. in Biology from Virginia Tech and his graduate education from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry at Virginia Commonwealth University.

 

Erick Rabins

Erick Rabins is the managing director for business development at Onconome, Inc., a Seattle, Washington-based biotech company committed to clinical excellence and improving cancer diagnostics. Previously, Mr. Rabins served as the president and COO of Dentigenix Inc., a biotechnology company working in the area of mineralized tissue engineering. He cofounded that company in 2001 and successfully negotiated its acquisition by Ivoclar Vivadent, AG, a Liechtenstein-based international corporation, in September 2003. His earlier experience includes work with other biotechnology firms and the insurance industry. Mr. Rabins serves on the executive committee of the board of directors and as treasurer of the Washington Biotechnology and Biomedical Association, as well as the Leadership Council of the Program for Appropriate Technology in Health, and on the board of trustees for the Seattle Biomedical Research Institute.

 

Molly Schmid, Ph.D.

Molly Schmid is currently a visiting professor at the Keck Graduate Institute in Claremont, California. The Claremont Colleges consortium is a group of seven private, highly selective, independent institutions which share a wide range of central facilities and services. The Keck Graduate Institute is dedicated to education and research aimed at translating into practice, for the benefit of society, the power and potential of the life sciences. Dr. Schmid's work experience includes executive-level positions at Affinium Pharmaceuticals, Genencor International and Microcide Pharmaceuticals. She was also a professor at the University of Houston and at Princeton University. Dr. Schmid is the co-holder of numerous patents and the author of many papers published in scientific journals.
